How to Automate Instagram Posts with an AI Agent
Connect Instagram and Google Drive to a Hermes agent through Composio, have it create the visuals and captions, review them, and schedule daily posts.

You can automate your Instagram posting with a Hermes agent in four steps: create the content, store it in Google Drive, post it to Instagram, and schedule the whole thing to run on its own. The post currently on my Instagram page, caption, hashtags and visuals included, was created and published by my agent. Here is how to set that up.
To follow along on screen, watch the full walkthrough. You need a running Hermes agent and an image generator it can use; I use Higgsfield.
What you need
- Hermes Agent, set up and reachable through Telegram.
- Composio, which authenticates your Instagram and Google Drive accounts for the agent.
- An image generator. Higgsfield.ai is what I use. A ChatGPT API or Gemini API works too. The agent needs some vendor that can produce images.
Step 1: connect Composio to your agent
- Log in at composio.dev and create an API key from the left column. Name it anything, make sure "read all" is selected.
- Copy the key into your agent's environment variables, the same way you added any other API key when you set Hermes up.
Your agent is now connected to Composio.
Step 2: connect Google Drive
- In Composio, open Toolkits and choose Google Drive (search for it if it is not on the first screen).
- Click Add project, name the configuration, and click Next.
- Leave authentication managed by Composio and click Create authentication.
- Click the arrow, then Connect account, and choose the Google account you want the agent to use. Click through until it says successfully connected.
Step 3: connect Instagram
Log into Instagram in your browser first. Then:
- In Toolkits, search for Instagram and open it.
- Add project, name it, Next, create the authentication managed by Composio.
- Click the arrow, Add account, and allow Composio access to your Instagram. You will see "successfully connected."
Step 4: build the tool router
Switch to Telegram. The agent needs a tool router so it knows about the connections you just made. The prompt I use:
"I connected Instagram and Google Drive to Composio through auth. Build a Composio tool router for Instagram and Google Drive connected to Hermes agent and verify both connections."
The agent builds the router and confirms both connections.
Step 5: create a folder to stage the content
Prompt: "Create a Google Drive folder and label it Instagram automation."
This folder is where every generated image lands before it is published. Staging is the point. It gives you a place to look before anything goes live.
Step 6: create the visuals and caption
Now the agent uses the image generator. My prompt was:
"Create an Instagram post in our style explaining some practical use cases of the Hermes agent, add some cool visuals of the Hermes female logo, and add the slide to our folder in Google Drive called Instagram automation."
"In our style" tells the agent to review my previous posts and match them. If you have never posted, give it a sample image you like, or describe the style: realistic photos, graphs, illustrations. Be specific about the look you want.
The agent came back with a preview of the finished slides and a link to the Drive folder where the images were stored. Nothing was published yet.
Step 7: post it
Once you like what you see, the prompt is one line: "Perfect. Now post this on my Instagram."
The agent worked through its tools and posted. It sent back a link to the post, with consistent visuals, a topic with key points, and hashtags. It is still on my page at stl.percy.
Step 8: schedule it to run automatically
This is the prompt that turns a one-off into a system:
"Research the latest news on [your topic] at 8:00 a.m. every day, then generate images using [your image tool] and store them in our Instagram automation folder. When they are ready, send me the link to the finished images. I will review and respond with 'approve', which means you can post it at 5:00 p.m. If I don't approve by 5:00 p.m., move that image to an archive folder and generate a new one for the next day."
Every morning the agent researches, generates, and sends me a link. I open it on my phone. If I reply "approve," it posts at five. If I do not, the image is archived and it tries again tomorrow.
I keep the approval step because I want to be happy with everything on my page, and some generated images are not up to standard. If you would rather run fully hands-off, remove the approval sentence and the agent will research, create and post on schedule without you. You can run it daily, twice a day, every day of the year, as long as you have credits.
What can break the automation
Three things stop it, all of them billing:
- Model credits. If the language model behind your agent runs out of credits, the agent stops.
- Your server bill. My agent runs on Hostinger, on auto-pay, so it stays up 24/7. Miss the payment and the agent goes dark.
- Image generator credits. No Higgsfield credits, no images.
Composio itself is free on the plan I use. They charge by usage above that, so heavy automation may need the paid tier.
What this means for your business
Composio does not stop at Instagram. It connects X, Reddit and many other platforms the same way, so this one setup can run several accounts.
- Consistent posting without a content person. Daily posts on your topic, in your style, reviewed in thirty seconds from your phone.
- A content engine for a niche. A fitness studio, a dealership, a contractor: the agent researches what people in that niche are asking and turns it into posts. This is one of the six use cases I document.

- Approval where it matters. Keep the review step for the brand account and drop it for lower-stakes accounts.
